Correspondence to Alma Mahler, 1951-1958.

Wilder's letters express friendship and affection; chronicle his travels (Venice, Cuba, Paris, Mexico, among numerous other destinations), with mentions of productions of his plays and his attendance of musical performances; and reflect his current research or reading, and his current writing. He writes in English with a playful smattering of German phrases and, on occasion, a German quote or a musical notation. Included are the following: a typescript of Wilder's play The Drunken Sisters, dated 1957 and inscribed to Alma Mahler; a clipping of a review by Murdock of the U.S. premiere of Wilder's play The Matchmaker, in Philadelphia, in 1955; and clippings of articles about Wilder from Time (1953) and Vogue (1956).
